LUDINGTON — A $1.2 million bond to build a new fire station is on the agenda of tonight’s City Council meeting. The new station will be located at 920 E. Tinkham Ave., behind the Lakeshore Resource Network.

The current station is located on the northeast corner of Loomis and Robert streets. The fire department moved into the building in 1977. Fire Chief Jerry Funk said he believes the building was built in the late 1960s, however. The majority of that block is being purchased by Morris Street LLC, a developer that has agreed to pay the city $500,000 for the property. The developer plans to use the majority of the block facing Ludington Avenue to build two four-story buildings that would house commercial space on the ground floor and up to 60 apartments on the remaining three floors. The fire station property would become parking lot.

The new station is expected to cost about $1.9 million.

City Council meets at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall, 400 S. Harrison St.
