SHERMAN TOWNSHIP — Three people helped save a woman from a burning vehicle early Thursday morning after the vehicle was involved in a rollover crash on Custer Road near Fountain Road. Casey Leese said she and other household residents, Nick Macgirr and Joseph Eno, were awoken by a loud noise outside of their home on Custer Road about 2 a.m.

“It crashed into the tree in front of our house,” Leese said. “Nick heard a crash but thought a tree fell on his truck. Then he went outside and saw a car on its side and he came to get us to help.

“I called 911 and the guys were working on getting her out,” Leese said. “Then I saw sparks and flames near the engine. The guys were somehow able to rip open the sunroof and pull her out. Then we just waited for the cops and fire department. By the time they got there the whole car was in flames and just the frame was left. It only took minutes.”

Fountain Area Fire Department, Life EMS, and Michigan State Police responded to the scene. Free Soil/Meade Fire Department was also dispatched but disregarded.
