Michigan v. Michigan State a Pure Michigan Tradition

LANSING, Mich. – While the cross-state rivalry between University of Michigan and Michigan State University football goes back generations, all can agree the annual meeting on the field between the two teams is an event and a tradition that captures the spirit of Pure Michigan.

This Saturday, on October 7, these two titans of football will clash under the lights of The Big House in Ann Arbor to battle it out for the Paul Bunyan Trophy in this juggernaut U of M v. MSU game presented by Pure Michigan.

“While we may be cheering for different teams we are all united in a tradition that speaks to the iconic events and state pride that embody the Pure Michigan experience,” said Jeff Mason, CEO of the Michigan Economic Development Corporation. “Whether you Bleed Maize and Blue or Sparty On, we are all Pure Michigan. We are proud to partner with UofM and MSU to celebrate one of the great fall traditions in our state.”

Pure Michigan will be on display throughout game day, promoting both leisure travel opportunities in the state as well as the Pure Michigan Business Connect program. Pure Michigan radio ads will run during the game broadcast and representatives from Michigan Economic Development Corporation will be on hand for in-game interviews. Both the MGoBlue.com and MSUSpartans.com websites will feature a Pure Michigan takeover and Pure Michigan will be featured on both teams’ social media score updates that day and the official game day program.

Fans can show their team spirit on Twitter throughout the weekend, starting Friday for a chance to win a team football signed by Coach Dantonio and Coach Harbaugh, respectively. To enter, fans simply tweet a photo of their scenic route to the game – whether they are going to Ann Arbor or just up the street to watch with friends or family – using the hashtag #PureMichiganScenicRoute and either #VoteGoGreen or #VoteGoBlue for their team pick. All tweets must include the #PureMichiganScenicRoute hashtag and one of the two team hashtags to be eligible. Fans will be able to visit michigan.org/contest to see real-time results of the head to head Twitter match-up. One fan will be chosen at random for each of the two team hashtags to win the signed footballs.

Pure Michigan’s fall Scenic Route campaign launched in early September featuring a Fall & Seek experience following three travelers as they journey across Michigan – with their destinations chosen by fans on Facebook and Instagram – in addition to the fall regional and in-state broadcast and digital advertising campaign. More details on Fall & Seek and inspiration for fall getaways across the state can be found at www.michigan.org/fall.

Also being highlighted during the game, Pure Michigan Business Connect is a MEDC program aimed at matchmaking businesses to solve supply chain and distribution challenges while growing businesses here in Michigan.
