Custer Road Bridge over Pere Marquette River

Custer Road bridge weight restrictions increased.

CUSTER TOWNSHIP — The weight limit for Custer Road Bridge over the Pere Marquette River has been lowered to four tons per axle, 20 tons gross effective immediately.

The weight limit lowering is a result of recent inspections and increase distress caused by corrosion of the supporting steel beams.

Legally loaded trucks are still able to cross the Pere Marquette River upstream on Walhalla Road and downstream on Scottville Road.

Plans for a new bridge deck superstructure are under design now for a 2018 spring replacement with a grant from the Local Bridge Program in cooperation with the Federal Highway Administration, Michigan Department of Transportation and the Mason County Road Commission.
