LUDINGTON — The words on the Ludington Cares Box pretty much sums up its purpose: “Give when you can. Take when you need.” The first of two boxes was installed recently at the Ludington branch of the Mason County District Library. The second will be installed next month at the Scottville branch.

The initiative to build the boxes came from Bambi Malone, along with help from her friend, Taya Hurd, both of Ludington.

“I had seen different blessing boxes, and different projects people had been doing and thought that it would be a great project for our town,” Bambi says. She entered the most recent round of Love Ludington grants and received $500 to build the boxes and stock them.

She says anyone can put supplies in the boxes that people may use, but her emphasis is on toiletry items and cleaning supplies. In the winter, she plans on placing items like gloves and socks in the box.

“It’s a work in progress,” she says.
