FREE SOIL TOWNSHIP — A truck driver was transported to the hospital by ambulance after the semi truck and trailer he was driving left the roadway on North US 31 Monday morning. Medical first responders on scene said the incident appeared to have been a medical situation with the driver.

The man, who personnel on scene said appeared to be in his early ’30s, was driving northbound on US 31 when the incident occurred just south of Freeman Road. The truck and trailer left the east side of the road and traveled several feet off the highway before coming to a rest, nearly tipping over. The driver was hauling for True Value Hardware.

Responding to the scene were Michigan State Police, Free Soil/Meade Fire and Rescue, Grant Township Fire and Rescue, and Life EMS. The driver was taken to Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital. The incident remains under investigation.
