‘Inappropriate text messages’ lead to sex offender’s arrest.

SHERMAN TOWNSHIP — “Inappropriate text messages” on a juvenile girl’s cell phone led to the arrest of a convicted sex offender in North Dakota Sunday, June 18, according to Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole.

A Mason County Sheriff’s deputy was dispatched at 6:41 a.m. to a residence in Sherman Township after a parent found inappropriate text messages on their juvenile daughter’s cell phone from a man who is known to the family and is also a registered sex offender, Cole said.

“The deputy worked with Mason County Probation/Parole along with deputies and probation/parole agents in Stark County, North Dakota, where the suspect is currently residing. The suspect was arrested by authorities in North Dakota on a probation violation for contacting the juvenile.”

– 11:08 a.m., reckless driving/damaged property, US 10 and Stiles Road, Amber Township. “The complainant reported a subject yelling and swearing at him and his family as they drove eastbound on US 10,” Cole said. “The suspect ended the contact with the complainant by allegedly throwing a can at the complainant’s car.”

– 11:11 a.m., gas drive-off, $39.61 in fuel stolen, 5600 block of West US 10, Wesco East Gate, Pere Marquette Township.

– 4:34 p.m., two-vehicle crash, no injuries, Free Soil Road west of US 31, Free Soil Township.

– 5:10 p.m., two-vehicle crash, no injuries, Eastbound US 10 off-ramp at US 31, Amber Township.

– 5:20 p.m., two-vehicle crash, no injuries, Chauvez and Darr roads, Custer Township.

– 8:15 p.m., attempt to smuggle contraband into the Mason County Jail, City of Ludington. A warrant is being sought for a 35-year-old Ludington woman after an MCSO corrections deputy found two Suboxone strips concealed in an eye glass case she had reportedly dropped off for an inmate, the sheriff stated.

– 8:47 p.m., a 21-year-old Hart man was cited following a traffic stop for no operator’s license/never applied, US 10 and Amber Road, Amber Township.

Saturday, June 17, 2017:

– 1:13 a.m., a 23-year-old Ludington man was arrested for probation violation following a traffic stop, US 10 and Jackson Road, Pere Marquette Township.

– 4:26 a.m., a 28-year-old Ludington man was arrested for second-offense operating while intoxicated following a one-vehicle crash, US 10 east of Meyers Road, Amber Township.

– 10:18 a.m., car/deer crash, no injuries, Free Soil Road east of Campbell Road, Free Soil Township.

– 11:24 a.m., two-vehicle crash, no injuries, US 10 west of Pere Marquette Highway, Pere Marquette Township.

– 11:25 a.m., a 33-year-old Ludington man was arrested following a traffic stop for second-offense driving while license suspended (DWLS), US 10 and Nelson Road, Pere Marquette Township.

Sunday, June 18, 2017:

– 2:28 p.m., a 28-year-old Colorado Springs, Colorado man was arrested for carrying a concealed weapon and DWLS after he was stopped for traveling 91 mph in a 75 mph zone, US 31 freeway near the Pere Marquette Highway exit, Pere Marquette Township. During the traffic stop, the driver mentioned having a gun in the vehicle and reached between the front seats. The driver complied with commands not to touch the gun. A fully-loaded Ruger 9 mm pistol was recovered, which the driver did not possess a permit to carry, Cole said.

– 10:17 p.m., car/deer crash, no injuries, Fountain and Stephens roads, Sherman Township.
