World Record!

LUDINGTON — Ludington is home to a new Guinness World’s Record! Today, 1,387 people broke the record for the most sand angels simultaneously made at one time during the Be Someone’s Angel Event at Stearns Park.

The record is officially held by Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital’s foundation and the event raised money for the hospital’s cancer center to help area cancer patients with medical expenses.

The new world record blows away the previous record accomplished by Keep Wales Tidy in Pembrokeshire, Wales, United Kingdom on June 6, 2015 with 352. This is the second year that a Guinness world record attempt will be held in Ludington. Last year, House of Flavors Restaurant broke the world record for the world’s longest frozen dessert with a sundae that stretched 2,970 feet and 8.95 inches, a feat that was defeated by another Michigan ice cream company later that year.

Organizers had hoped that up to 5,000 people would attend the event, which was the capacity of Stearns Park beach, but 1,387 is still a formidable number.
