SCOTTVILLE — The Mason County Community Good Friday Service is scheduled to be in the center of the county this year at the United Methodist Church of Scottville. The service is scheduled for Friday, April 14 from noon to 3 p.m. and will feature pastors and members of various local churches.

Pastor Henrik Lidman of Prayer and Praise Assembly of God in Ludington said the Mason County Ministerial Association decided to move the service east this year to make the location more convenient for everyone in the county. He said like in years past, the service is formatted so that people may chose to either stay for the entire event or just come for a portion.

The service is divided into 20 minutes segments that tell the story of Jesus coming to the cross to die.

“This is a topic that many Christians don’t like to face,” Lidman said. “Most of us would rather skip over Good Friday and go right into the resurrection on Easter Sunday. But, that wouldn’t be telling the whole story. Jesus had to die in order to be resurrected. It was a grueling death but it is truth. It is our truth and we must face that.”

The service begins at noon with a greeting from Pastor Jack Conklin of UMC Scottville. He will then discuss the “prelude to the cross.” Each message will be followed by a Bible reading, mediation and then music.

United Methodist Church of Scottville is located at 114 W. State St. (US 10).
