LUDINGTON — As part of the celebration of National Agriculture Week, (March 20-24th) the Mason County Farm Bureau presented a gift basket to the family of a baby born during the week.

The gift basket was presented Wednesday to Melissa and Mike Russell of Ludington, and their new son, Kevin Robert Russell. Kevin was born Tuesday, March 21 at Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital, weighing in at 6 pounds, 11 ounces.

The Russells received their surprise gifts from Lyndsay Earl, a member of Mason County Farm Bureau board of directors and Michigan Farm Bureau’s Promotion and Education committee.

“We look for various ways to highlight the importance of agriculture throughout the year,” said Earl. “Families are a very important part of farm life, so for a number of years we’ve included a gift to a young family as part of our celebration. We gratefully acknowledge Loretta Petersen for putting together the basket.”

The Farm Bureau’s gift basket to the Russells included picture frames to chronicle Kevin Robert’s growth over his first year, a Teddy Bear, baby fork and spoon, and a piggy bank. The basket even had a rubber ducky and, appropriately, a kid’s book about a farm.
