AMBER TOWNSHIP — A 39-year-old Florida man faces nine drug and gun charges after law enforcement and emergency medical personnel responded to a drug overdose of a 35-year-old man, also from Florida, at the Holiday Inn Express at the intersection of US 10-31 and Brye Road Wednesday, March 8, according to Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole.

A 28-year-old Free Soil man and a 23-year-old Florida man were also arrested in connection to the incident during a traffic stop Thursday, March 9, Cole said.

“On Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at 12:21 p.m., Mason County deputies responded to a reported ‘overdose’ at the Holiday Inn on US 10 in Amber Township,” Cole states in a press release issued Friday morning, March 10.

“Upon arrival, deputies located a 35-year-old man from the Miami Florida area unconscious and a second man, Isreal Antonio Burgos, 39, from Hialeah, Florida, loading property into a 2015 Toyota Tundra pickup truck. The investigation led to the arrest of Burgos, and yesterday he was arraigned (in Mason County’s 79th District Court) on the following charges:
• possession with intent to deliver marijuana;
• possession of cocaine;
• possession of heroin;
• possession of LSD;
• maintaining a drug house;
• carrying a concealed weapon;
• two counts of felony firearms; and felon in possession of a firearm.

“Deputies recovered four long guns, one shot gun, three handguns, suspected cocaine, LSD, heroin, and marijuana during the original investigation,” Cole said. Burgos has a criminal history in Florida’s Monroe County, according to a Google search.

Burgos has been arraigned and is currently lodged in the Mason County Jail on a $500,000 cash bond.

“The 35-year-old man has been transported to Blodgett Hospital in Grand Rapids where his condition is unknown at this time,” the Sheriff said.

“As a result of the above investigation, on Thursday, March 9, 2017 at 5:55 p.m., deputies conducted a traffic stop on the southbound US 31 on-ramp from US 10. As a result of that traffic stop, a 28-year-old Free Soil man was arrested on charges of:
• felon in possession of a firearm;
• violation of the Carry Conceal Law;
• driving while license suspended; and possession of marijuana.”

A 23-year-old man from Hialeah, Florida was arrested for marijuana possession. During the traffic stop, deputies recovered two handguns, Cole said. He has not yet been arraigned.

Deputies were assisted in the investigation by the State, Sheriffs’, Chiefs’ Enforcement of Narcotics Team (SSCENT), the Ludington Police Department, the Oceana County Sheriff’s Office and the Mason County Prosecutor’s Office. The Pere Marquette Township Fire Department and Life EMS responded to the initial medical emergency at the hotel.
