LUDINGTON — A Pere Marquette Township woman admitted to stealing her grandmother’s checks Tuesday, Feb. 21, in 51st Circuit Court when she pleaded guilty to one felony count of uttering and publishing.

Danielle Renae Perow, 29, of 1141 Daisy Lane, Lot 13, appeared in court for a final conference hearing with her attorney, Al Swanson, Jr.

Perow originally faced three counts of uttering and publishing, which is a 14-year felony, and three counts of identity theft, which is a felony punishable by up to five years in prison, said Mason County Prosecutor Paul Spaniola. The other five counts were dismissed in a plea agreement.

“I was given a check and I used it at the store, and the check was stolen,” Perow testified.

Spaniola asked who specifically was the victim in the case, and Perow said it was her grandmother. The incident occurred at Walmart in Pere Marquette Township last October, the prosecutor said.

Perow is facing serving a one-year discretionary jail term with four months up front as part of the plea agreement. She will also be ordered to pay fines and costs as well as restitution of $344.33 that is joint and several with a co-defendant. She will also be ordered to undergo a substance evaluation.

Sentencing is set for April 11 at 1:15 p.m.
