AMBER TOWNSHIP — Members of the Mason County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team has spent the past couple of days getting certified in cold water diving. On Wednesday, team members were at Copeyan Park in Ludington, training in Pere Marquette Lake. On Thursday, they moved to Crystal (Hackert) Lake. Det. Mike Kenney of the sheriff’s office said Pere Marquette Lake tends to be very murky, making it difficult for the divers to see. While this is good practice, it’s not overly practical for certification. Crystal Lake is a lot clearer, he said. In the case of murky water, the diver basically has to rely on feel to find the victim, he said.

The dive team consists of deputies from the sheriff’s office, officers from Ludington Police Department and volunteer civilians.
