Another world record attempt planned for 2017.

LUDINGTON — The Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital Foundation is proposing that Ludington set another Guinness World Record in 2017, in addition to this year’s World’s Longest Frozen Dessert, set by House of Flavors Restaurant in June. The foundation is planning an event called Be Someone’s Angel and will attempt to break the world record of the most amount of sand angels created simultaneously.

Foundation Director Kaley Petersen is expected to make the request in front of City Council tonight during the council’s regular bi-monthly meeting, which begins at 6:30 p.m. In an email send to City Manager John Shay, Petersen said she has set up an informal committee that has begun planning the event, which would take place from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 10, 2017 at Stearns Park, following the Ludington Lakestride running events.

The current record was set on June 6, 2016 by Keep Wales Tidy in Pembrokeshire, United Kingdom with 352 people participating. The Ludington event is setting a goal for 5,000 people to participate.

The Ludington event would be a benefit to raise money for the hospital’s Cancer Service Center.
