RIVERTON TOWNSHIP — A 20-year-old woman was injured Saturday morning while working at Indian Summer Co-op fruit processing plant, 3958 W. Chauvez Road. The accident occurred about 5 a.m. after the woman’s hand was pulled in and pinched between a chain/sprocket and frame work of a machine, according to Riverton Township Fire Chief Joe Cooper. Cooper said the woman was working next to a conveyor/roller belt at the time.

Medical first responders from Riverton Fire Department and Indian Summer maintenance crew cut and unbolted parts of the machine to free the woman whose hand was trapped. Ludington Fire Department’s extrication unit was also called to the scene incase the Jaws of Life were needed. Cooper said the safety guards of the machine appeared to be in place.

The woman was transported by Life EMS ambulance to a hospital in Muskegon.
