GRANT TOWNSHIP — An East Lake man died after falling from a tree stand while bow hunting for deer Saturday evening. Robert Jankowski, 56, was found by family members after he failed to return to the hunting camp following an afternoon of hunting, according to Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole.

The incident took place approximately one mile from the intersection of Morton and Modjeski roads in the Manistee National Forest. Emergency crews were dispatched at 7:56 p.m.

Sheriff Cole said Jankowski had not been secured by a harness and was pronounced dead at the scene. Responding to the scene, in addition to MCSO, were Grant Township Fire and Rescue and Life EMS ambulance.

The case remains under investigation by the sheriff’s office and the Mason County Medical Examiner’s Office.
