LAS and Spectrum team up to offer sports physicals for student athletes.

LUDINGTON — The Ludington Area School District and the Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital sports medicine program have teamed up to provide free sports physicals for the school year beginning this September.

Physicals for student athletes entering grades 7 through 12 will be held Monday, July 25, from 4 to 7 p.m. at two Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital medical offices—not at the hospital itself. Spectrum Health Medical Group providers will be available at each site.

Names A to L

Student athletes with names beginning with the letters A—L will receive free physicals at the Pediatrics office at 907 Tinkham Ave. in Ludington.

Participating there will be Drs. Kari Leikert, Tammy Middlebrook and Teresa Kovas, who practice at that location, joined by Dr. Allan Nelson, a long-time LAS board member, whose family medicine offices in Pentwater and Hart are supporting the LAS physicals.

Names M to Z

Student athletes with last names starting with the letters M-Z will have their free physicals at the Family and lnternal Medicine office at 922 Lawndale St. in Ludington.

Conducting physicals at that site will be Drs. Tim O’Callaghan and Amanda Overmyer, who practice there, along with nurse practitioners Beth Hartrum, from the Hart office, and Marlene Berens, who sees patients at both the Hart office and the Ludington Convenient Care office.

Athletic forms and fees

Ludington Area Schools also announced that physical forms can be picked up in the Central Business Office or at the High School Main office, so they can be filled out prior to the physical.  Forms will also be available at the two sites the night of the physicals.

All athletes need to have their up-to-date physical on file with the athletic office by Friday, August 5, 2016. According to MHSAA rules the physical must be dated after April 15th, 2016.   While the physicals are free, there is an athletic fee of $50 for each student for the year, which needs to be paid by Friday, August 5, 2016.

The previously announced date of July 23 has been changed.
