WSCC officials will attend leadership academy.

VICTORY TOWNSHIP — West Shore Community College President Kenneth Urban has nominated Dean of Student Services Chad Inabinet and Professor of Communications Jennifer Lundberg Anders to be inaugural class members of the Michigan Community College Leadership Academy organized by the Michigan Community College Association (MCCA).

The Leadership Academy will provide an avenue through which community colleges can prepare their future leaders while supporting existing talent.

Targeting a select group of community college personnel identified as having potential for senior leadership positions, the academy will offer Michigan-specific professional development opportunities to sharpen leadership competencies and develop a strong statewide network of emerging leaders within community colleges.

“Senior leaders in community colleges are graying, and a large number of retirements will occur over the next decade. Providing strong leadership training, mentoring, and coaching for emerging leaders has become imperative for community colleges across the nation,” said Urban.

“Having benefited from a similar program early in my career gives me confidence that Jennifer and Chad will find Michigan’s program just as valuable.”

The nine month cohort-style academy will include three workshops at the MCCA office in Lansing, action-based learning projects between the workshops, experiential learning activities, coaching and mentoring, and a capstone graduation experience in conjunction with the annual MCCA annual conference in July 2017.

Graduates of the first class will serve as mentors to the next cohort of emerging leaders. The inaugural class will launch in September.
