Scottville budget calls for treasurer, city hall open 5 days a week.

April 18, 2016

SCOTTVILLE — A part-time treasurer will be hired by the city beginning July 1, the start of a new fiscal year. For the past seven or eight years, the city manager and treasurer positions have been combined due to the reduction of city revenues. However, one of the top goals of the City Commission has been to split the positions to allow for more checks and balances. The salary of a part-time treasurer has been placed in the proposed 2015-2016 budget.

Also in the budget is the operation of city hall Monday through Friday. Having the municipal building open throughout the business week has also been a goal of City Commission for the past few years. The change has been put in the proposed 2016-2017 budget, according to City Manager Amy Williams. City Hall has been open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday for the past several years as a cost savings measure.

A public hearing on the proposed budget will be held during the commission’s regular meeting this afternoon at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall, 105 N. Main St. City Commission is expected to take action on the budget during its next meeting, Monday, May 2.

“We will start the hiring process (for a new treasurer) now as it may take some time to find the right person for the position,” Williams reported to the commission in a memo.
