Public hearing scheduled on Area Agency on Aging.

SCOTTVILLE — The Area Agency on Aging of Western Michigan (AAAWM) is seeking public comment on its Draft Multi-Year Implementation Plan (MYP) for fiscal years 2017-2019, which run from October 1, 2017 through September 30, 2019. The plan includes goals and objectives defining how federal Older Americans Act and state Older Michiganians Act funds will be spent to support home and community-based services for older adults in Allegan, Ionia, Kent, Lake, Mason, Montcalm, Mecosta, Newaygo and Osceola counties.

Seniors, family members caring for an older loved one, elected officials, advocates and other interested parties are invited to review and comment on the proposed plan at a public hearing, which will be conducted at the Scottville Senior Center on:

The hearing will include a brief overview and highlights of the Fiscal Years 2017-2019 Draft MYP with the majority of the time allotted for public review and comment. Participants are encouraged to review the document in advance and be prepared with comments and questions. The Draft MYP will be available for review and/or download on the Area Agency on Aging of Western Michigan website (www.aaawm.org) on April 26, 2016.

Interested parties may attend the hearing in person or may participate by commenting on the website, AAAWM Facebook page (www.Facebook.com/AreaAgencyOnAging) or by sending a letter to the address above.   Written comments may be mailed or delivered to the AAAWM office, submitted at the hearing or emailed to Sandra Ghoston-Jones, Area Agency on Aging of Western Michigan Contract Coordinator and Planner, at aiplan@aaawm.org. AAAWM will accept written comments through June 13, 2016 at 5:00 pm.

The Multi-Year Implementation Plan will be considered by the AAAWM Advisory Council at their meeting on June 6, 2016.  The AAAWM Executive Board will consider the recommendation(s) of the Advisory Council at their meeting on June 27, 2016, at which time they will make a recommendation regarding the Multi-Year Implementation Plan to the AAAWM Board of Directors.  The AAAWM Board will consider the recommendations of both bodies and any public comments on the Area Plan at their meeting on June 27, 2016.
