Bruce Burke, former Carr Area Fire Chief, said he was working on a dozer in his barn and went back to his house, about 100 feet away, momentarily. When he returned, the barn was on fire. Burke called the fire department which then called for assistance from Branch Township Fire Department and Lake County’s Lake Township Fire Department. Eventually Baldwin Fire Department was also called to assist at the fire, located about one mile west of the Mason-Lake counties line.

Burke said the barn was full of equipment including four or five tractors, a combine and all his tools.

Carr Area Fire Chief Andrew LaPointe said he did not know at the time where and what started the fire.

The fire started around 9 a.m. with departments still on scene as of posting, at 10:30 a.m.
