FILER TOWNSHIP (Manistee County) — One person is dead following a SUV/semi truck crash on US 31 between County Line and Fox Farm roads, just north of the Manistee-Mason counties line. The crash occurred Monday morning about 11:20 a.m., according to Manistee County Sheriff Dale Kowalkowski, who is on scene.

Kowalkowski said the crash occurred on US 31 about 40 feet south of Fox Farm Road. It involved a SUV that was traveling north on US 31 and a southbound semi-truck and trailer. Kowalkowski said the victim, who was driving the SUV, was alone. The SUV was registered to a Mason County resident but investigators had not yet been able to identify the victim. The semi-truck driver, who is from Hesperia, was not injured.

Sheriff Kowalkowski said a Michigan State Police investigator from Gaylord was being called to the scene to investigate. In the meantime, US 31 is closed between County Line and Pruess roads. Traffic is being diverted west to Maple Road.

Assisting were Manistee County Sheriff’s Office, West Shore EMS, Michigan State Police, Manistee City Police, Little River Band of Ottawa County Indians law enforcement, Mason County Sheriff’s Office, Filer Township Fire Department and Grant Township Fire Department (Mason County).

The sheriff said more information will be released when it is available.
