LUDINGTON — Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital’s Fit Club visited Ludington Area Schools’ Franklin Elementary last Friday to talk about being Smart, particularly when it comes to making healthy choices about smoking. Kathy Grierson and Leona Ashley of Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital demonstrated what a healthy lung looks like compared to a smoker’s lung. The demonstration used real pig lungs, which are similar in size to human lungs.

The Fit Club is part of Spectrum’s Win with Wellness program, which teaches kids to make healthy choices and encourages them to be physically active. The program is presented in every school in Mason County along with Pentwater and Hart schools.

Fit Club also meets on Wednesdays at 4 p.m. at Mason County District Library Scottville branch and on Thursdays at 4 p.m. at Mason County District Library Ludington branch.
