VICTORY TOWNSHIP — West Shore Community College’s president, Ken Urban, has recently announced some administrative changes. Urban was hired as president in July 2015.

In an email to college employees, Urban stated: “Since arriving on campus back in mid-July, I’ve been actively listening to and gathering input from employees both individually and in groups, observing how we do our daily work, and speaking with students, community members, and others. I told you that I’d do this before implementing changes.”

Effective Jan. 1, 2016, Thom Hawley is now the executive director of communications and community engagement. Prior to the new year, Hawley’s title was director of college relations and also interim director of the WSCC Foundation. “He will lead our marketing and outreach efforts including the Foundation, the Business Opportunity Center, Community Education, and our performing and creative arts,” Urban stated. “His work will strengthen our institution’s relationships with our communities and stakeholders.

Urban also announced that he has promoted Christy Christmas to dean of occupational programs.

“I will realign the dean role in Academics and Student Affairs as well. In my time here, I’ve learned that the student populations for liberal arts and occupational programs differ sharply. Because of that difference, I am convinced a dedicated Dean of Occupational Programs would serve as a strong advocate for students, faculty, and district businesses. Christy Christmas has agreed to take on these duties. She will serve alongside Chad Inabinet, Dean of Student Services and Brooke Portmann, Dean of Arts and Sciences.”
Christmas had recently served as director of student success services. Prior to coming to WSCC, she was an administrator at Mason County Central Schools.
