VICTORY TOWNSHIP – At the October 19, 2015 West Shore Community College Board of Trustees meeting, Trustee Phyllis Cowden announced her intent to resign on December 1, 2015, due to a change in residency for a portion of the year.

The board of trustees will appoint a replacement at its next meeting on Monday, November 16, to fulfill Cowden’s term until the next regularly scheduled election for trustee seats, which will be November 8, 2016.

“I leave my trustee position with a great deal of gratitude to the voters of the College district that placed me in this position and entrusts me with this important responsibility,” said Cowden.  “It has been a privilege to be associated with the board, the administration, faculty, staff, and students, and I leave the board confident that it has a very bright future under the guidance of professionals who care deeply about student success.”

A Manistee County resident, Cowden was first appointed to the board in 2010 to fill an unexpired seat and was subsequently elected in 2011 to the college’s board. She has served in various capacities on the board, most recently serving on the board policy and personnel committee.  In addition to her longstanding commitment to the college, Cowden has been involved in many school, church and community activities.

James Jensen, current chairman of the College’s board of trustees, thanked Cowden for her commitment to the College and community. “We thank Ms. Cowden for her service to the College and to the community,” said Jensen.  “We are grateful for her dedication and commitment. Through her service, she has touched many lives and significantly impacted the success of our students making our community an even better place to learn, live, work and prosper.”

The board of trustees is accepting applications to fill the vacancy created by Cowden’s resignation. Applicants must be a registered voter of the WSCC college district and submit a letter of interest and resume to the president’s office by 5 p.m., November 2. The resume may be mailed to Lisa Stankowski, West Shore Community College, 3000 N. Stiles Road, Scottville, MI 49454 or emailed to LMStankowski@westshore.edu .

The West Shore Community College Board of Trustees is comprised of seven members who serve without compensation.
