LUDINGTON — Ludington City Council will hold the first reading of its controversial rental inspection ordinance during its regular meeting tonight at city hall. Some of the highlighted items of the proposal include:

– Registration of rental dwellings at a cost of $15 per unit.

– Ownership transfer fee of $10 per rental units.

– Re-registration every three years.

– Minimum standards for rental dwellings.

– Waiver of standards for rentals that are “grandfathered.”

– Certification of compliance.

– Inspection fees of $50 per unit.

The city’s building and licenses committee has held public meetings on the topic. The council must hold a first reading and then normally will vote on an ordinance proposal at the following meeting.

City council meets at 6:30 p.m. at 400 S. Harrison Street.
