Scottville commission will allow home owners more time to repair blighted properties.

SCOTTVILLE — The Scottville City Commission is allowing two property owners a little more time to bring their houses up to standards. The two houses, located at 206 N. Columbia Avenue and 127 W. Broadway Ave., have been on the top of the city’s list of blighted houses. This summer the commission has had conversations about condemning the properties and was presented resolutions Monday during its regular meeting.

Both property owners spoke during Monday’s meeting.

William Schoenlein, owner of Lake Star Group LLC — which owns the house on Columbia Avenue — addressed the commission and stated he had begun repairs. He spoke during the previous meeting as well. He stated that the commission would be acting beyond its constitutional rights and violating his, if it proceeded with condemnation.

Cindy Schulz, who owns the property on Broadway was a little less threatening and was apologetic about the condition of the house she owns. Neither house is occupied.

Both indicated they have begun working on the houses.
