SCOTTVILLE — Richard Maki was re-elected mayor of Scottville Monday afternoon during the city commission’s organizational meeting. Scottville’s charter calls for the mayor and mayor pro-tem to be elected by the commissioners, rather than by the populous. Maki was first elected mayor in 2013 after the previous mayor, Joe Baxter, resigned.

Jim Schiebner was elected mayor pro-tem. Maki also serves as one of the city’s two first ward commissioners while Scheibner serves as one of the city’s two commissioners-at-large.

Edward Hahn, who defeated incumbent Denise Dongvillo during last Tuesday’s general election by 8 votes, 67-59, was sworn in as Scottville’s newest first ward commissioner.

Schniebner and fellow commissioner-at-large Dave Johnson, along with second ward commissioner Marcy Spencer, were also sworn in. The three were re-elected last Tuesday but ran unopposed.

The city’s charter also requires an organizational meeting to be held the first Monday after an election.
