SCOTTVILLE — The Mason County Allied Veterans Council and Mason County Central Middle School are joining forces in creating a community wide program to honor local veterans on Veterans’ Day. The program will take place at MCC Middle School on November 11.

Veterans and community members are welcome to attend the all day event starting at 7:30 a.m. with fellowship and a continental breakfast.

The program will begin at 8:45 a.m. with the introduction of every veteran. This year’s program will feature a parade of colors, flag raising ceremony, national anthem, missing man table and honor ceremony by the Michigan Rolling Thunder Chapter 1, Patriot Pen essay award winners read by students, MCC middle and high school bands, recognition of Gold Star Families, music performance by Tom Noteware and Friends, Vietnam Traveling Wall Committee presentation, historical reenactor Jim Newkirk, ‘Doughboy’ Armistice Day tribute by teacher Duane Wolf, MCAVC rifle salute and singing performance by Donna Thomas.

At the conclusion of the morning program, veterans will be treated to a luncheon provided by MCC Middle School, MCAVC, MCC food service and funded through local donations.  The afternoon will highlight the day’s events as our local veterans will be visiting classrooms throughout the middle school as part of the veterans in the classroom program.

Veterans interested in attending should call the MCC Middle School Office at 757-3724 to be involved with the classroom visit and to RSVP for the day’s events.
