WSCC announces cast of ‘Buried Child’

VICTORY TWP. – West Shore Community College’s Theater Department has announced its cast for the upcoming production of the Pulitzer Prize winning drama, “Buried Child.”  Sam Shepard’s critically and commercially acclaimed landmark play is being presented as part of WSCC’s Book of the Semester project.

“This is one of the most powerful and stunning plays to come out in the last 40 years,” says the play’s director, Dr. Rick Plummer.  He adds that this cast is one of the most exceptional casts he has assembled in his 18 years as director of the college’s arts series.

In the lead as the family patriarch, Dodge, is professional actor and special guest artist, Mike Mikula.  Mikula did his undergraduate training at top tier theater school, Stephens College, and continued his actor training in London.  He has performed at professional theaters around the United States.

WSCC Performing Arts Scholarship recipient, Sarah McCulley, will be seen as his wife, Halie.  Topher Webb, also a WSCC Performing Arts Scholarship student, is playing Dodge’s long-lost grandson, Vince.  David Grove is cast as Dodge and Hallie’s troubled son, Tilden.

WSCC student Kyler McQuesten will play Tilden’s violently sadistic brother, Bradley. Paul Garland is cast as the ineffectual and badly behaved minister, Father Dewis.  LeAnna Engwall, the first recipient of the Rick J. Plummer Performing Arts Scholarship at WSCC, stars as Vince’s girlfriend, Shelly.

Emily Hartrum is stage manager, Sara Brown is assistant director, Susan Barnard is costumer, Amanda Collene is lighting designer, Alex Wolkow is sound designer, Mary Fruk is properties mistress, and Timothy Juhl and Marty Cupp are scene painters and running crew.
