College rec center renovations underway

June 4, 2014

VICTORY TWP.– The West Shore Community College Recreation Center will have several interior renovation projects underway this summer. As a result, the locker rooms and pool will be closed from July 4 until the end of August.

The Wellness Center, gym, weight room, and racquetball court will remain open with the exception of closing for the annual summer maintenance of those areas from August 11 – 17.

Those who are currently renting a locker are asked to remove personal belongings before July 3. Patrons will be credited for locker rental during the project and may choose a new locker when the project is complete. During the remodel project, the showers in the

Ice Arena will be available for use.

“The recreation facilities have always been extremely popular among community members and students, however, our current facilities are outdated and not keeping up with the demand,” said Mike Moore, director of recreation services. “We apologize for the inconvenience, but with these significant improvements to the Rec Center, our students and the campus community will have a much improved facility at their disposal.”

In order to retain current users and attract new members during the remodeling project, the Recreation Center staff is offering those who are 60 or older and live within the WSCC district an opportunity to purchase, from July 1 – Sept. 30, the “Forever Senior II” one-year membership for $156.  The “forever” rate will continue as long as a consecutive membership is maintained.

The community is also invited to attend “Reconnect with the Rec” during Community College Week, Sept. 15 – 19.  Free tours and use the Rec Center will be offered on Sept. 17. The event will also provide an opportunity to learn more about the facilities and services provided by the staff.
