Local students compete in health occupations competition

TRAVERSE CITY — Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) held the State Leadership Conference at Grand Traverse Resort in Traverse City, Michigan on April 24 and 25. Twenty-four students from the West Shore ESD’s Career and Technical Education program competed.

Fourteen students were state finalists, finishing in the top eight. Of those 14, seven medaled, placing in the top three. The medalists will go on to the National Leadership Conference in Florida, competing with over 5,000 other students from across the country.

State Finalists:

1st Place Gold Medal in Clinical Specialty: Autumn Espinoza (Ludington High School)

1st Place Gold Medal in CPR/First Aid: Jessica Johnson (Mason County Central) Katelyn Graczyk (MCC)

1st Place Gold Medal in HOSA Quiz Bowl: Joshua Ritzema (MCC) Gabe Kelly (LHS) Samantha MacDonnell (LHS) Cesar Gamez (LHS)

4th Place in CPR/First Aid: Madison Geers (MCC) Ashley Pyke (MCC)

5th Place in Healthy Lifestyle: Sean Briggs (MCC) 7th Place in Pathophysiology: Cloe Baerwolf (MCC)

8th Place in Bioemedical Debate: Jaime Perrigan (MCC) Lynsey Chlebana (LHS) Taylor Bryant (Mason County Eastern)
