wscc logoVICTORY TWP. — West Shore Community College nursing students will hold the annual Community Health Promotion Fair on April 7, to offer information on current health issues to the public.

The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. throughout the campus, with displays in the Tech Center atrium, Arts & Sciences Center, and the Schoenherr Campus Center.

“Health education is an important role of nurses and the fair will focus on significant health promotion topics of interest to our local community.  This is a senior project by our nursing students and provides them the experience of researching health information, creating presentations, and talking to the public about health promotion topics,” said Susan North, Director of Nursing and Allied Health on the WSCC campus.

This year’s health topics include high blood pressure, weight management, diet and nutrition, diabetes, exercise, mouth care, smoking cessation, food allergies, and immunizations, and more.

Visual displays, written handouts, and interactive education will be provided by the nursing students, according to North.  In addition to the valuable learning experience for students, North explained, the health fair provides an opportunity for community members to get information to help themselves to become or remain healthy.

“We hope many community members will join us,” North said.
