Scottville may limit city hall parking times

SCOTTVILLE — The time allowed to park in front of Scottville City Hall may become limited in the very near future. City Manager Amy Williams is suggesting the city commission discuss this topic during its regular meeting this afternoon.

“Parking in front of city hall is very limited and we have had some business owners and residents taking up valuable parking spaces for hours on end and our customers, especially the elderly are having trouble getting into city hall without having to walk a long distance or cross Main Street,” Williams said in a memo to city commissioners.  “We’ve had some people recently suggest we designate a couple spaces out front as 15 minute parking which should give more than enough time for people to come in here and complete their business.  I’m referring to the two spaces between the police parking and the corner handicap space.

“If we did this I would recommend we make it the 15 minute parking Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., even though we are currently closed on Friday.  We’ve spoken to the people parking there and asked that the find other locations, but since it’s not written anywhere that they can’t park there, they don’t seem to want to look elsewhere.”

City commission meets at city hall, 105 N. Main St., at 5:30 p.m.
