Winter weather advisory until this evening

superior electric 250The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for Mason County until 7 p.m. tonight. Snow will move northeast into the area through early afternoon. Snowfall rates may briefly exceed an inch per hour in some spots. Total accumulation of 3 to 6 inches are expected, higher amounts possible towards the lakeshore.

Motorists are urged to use caution and reduce speed. Visibility on the road will be reduced to under half mile at times.

Today: Steady snow will taper off and end by mid-afternoon. Cloudy with temperatures steady near 24 degrees. Wind northeast at 10 to 15 mph. Additional snowfall of 2 to 3 inches expected through 4:30 p.m. Tonight, 50% chance of snow showers with a low temperature of 16 degrees; 1 to 2 inches of snow.

Sunset: 5:12 p.m.

Tomorrow: Sunrise at 8:18 a.m. There is a 50% chance of snow showers with a high temperature of 22 degrees; wind northeast at 8 mph. Low temperature tomorrow night of 9 degrees with a 40% chance of snow; wind northeast at 8 mph.

Christmas Eve Day: 30% chance of snow showers, especially in the morning, high temperature of 19 degrees and a low temperature of 17 degrees at night; wind east-southeast at 7 mph.

Christmas Day: 60% chance of snow showers with a high temperature of 26; wind south-southwest at 19 mph. Evening temperatures of 18 degrees with a 30% chance of snow; wind west-southwest at 10 mph.
