Reformed church scrap metal drive will help mission

October 10, 2013

AMBER TWP. – Mason County Reformed Church Dominican Republic Mission Team will be holding a scrap metal drive Oct. 12 through Nov. 19. The drive will serve as a fund raiser for the team’s upcoming mission trips to Dominican Republic.

A Padnos container will be located in the rear parking lot of the church, which is located at the intersection of U.S. 10-31 and Amber Road.

If something is too large to toss in the container it can be placed alongside of it. Members of the team will pick up scrap that is undeliverable; call the church office at 757-2088 to make arrangements. Scrap delivered to Padnos can also be donated through the MCRC account there. All proceeds will benefit the team’s expenses for its next two trips in 2014.

The current project the team is working toward is to lay the foundations for a church in Los Alcarrizos, Dominican Republic. The team has been working in this community by doing acts of service since 2005 building houses, fixing existing homes, making sidewalks, taking personal care items to the community and helping with Lighthouse Christian School projects. The last big project that was just completed in January 2013 was helping to build a kitchen-cafeteria for the school children to be served a nutritious meal before beginning their school day.

The next project is to build a church building that the people can worship in, bring their children to and learn of the love of Jesus. Approximately 300,000 people live in Los Alcarrizos, which is about a 20 square mile radius, and over 15,000 people live in the neighborhood the team would like to build this church with only three other churches nearby. Most of the people have to walk or ride bikes. They live in very close poverty/slum conditions and the drug use and crime rate is high so teaching and showing them the love of Christ is vital in this community.

The team needs to raise approximately $50,000 to lay the foundation in January, and then an additional $150,000 is needed to complete the building. The property has already been purchased and outdoor open air worship services have taken place on numerous occasions.

If you would like to go on one of the mission trips scheduled in either Jan. 2014 or March/April 2014 (Spring Break) please contact the church office at 231 757-2088 for more information. If you would like to contribute financially to the building of this church you can do so by sending your tax deductible donation to MCRC, 45 S. Amber Rd. Scottville, MI 49454 with DR church in the memo. All of your gift will go directly into the building supplies needed. A business plan for this project can be obtained by calling the church office and requesting one.
