Petunia Parade in need of more involvement, funds

October 5, 2013

LUDINGTON — The Ludington Petunia Parade advisory committee is in need of more people to be involved for 2014. The committee is facing many challenges for the 2014 season. It is in need of more advisory board members, block captains, weeders as well as increased funding.

The advisory committee has recently accepted resignations from three members who have found it necessary to retire: Suzanne Townsend, Carol Pehrson, and Deb Gunderson. Individuals are being recruited to fill these positions.  The committee hopes to have several new members in place before the next meeting on October 17. This meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at Bookmark.

New block captains are also needed for several areas.  Each of these volunteers is responsible for maintaining a one-block section of petunias, which includes planting in May, weeding throughout the summer, and pulling the petunias in September. Many block captains recruit a small crew of people who work together to maintain their block.

If you are interested in becoming a member of the Ludington Petunia Parade advisory committee or a block captain, please contact Donna Hanson-Brown at 231-301-0699.

The Ludington Petunia Parade project is supported by donations and grant funds.  These funds have greatly decreased in recent years, and more funding is needed for the upcoming season.  This issue will be addressed in a subsequent article.  Donations may be directed to: Ludington Petunia Parade PO Box 5, Ludington, MI 49431.
