August 22, 2013

LUDINGTON – Ludington Area Center for the Arts will be presenting a series of events this fall that highlight the fiber arts.  An exhibit, Fiber Invitational ’13, will be on display in the Main Gallery and will run from early September until November.  A Fiber Maker Faire is scheduled for October 12 and three different fiber-related workshops are being offered as well.

Fiber Invitational ’13 is an exhibit of two and three dimensional works by more than fifteen artists and will open September 10 in the Main Gallery. More than thirty pieces made of silk, hand-dyed yarns, handmade paper, and quilted and woven fabrics will compose the display.

Kris Campbell, organizer of the fall fiber events at LACA says, “We’re really honored to have this talented group of artists exhibit at the Arts Center.  Artists of accomplished skill and award winners from state and national competitions will be represented.”

On October 12, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., visitors to the Arts Center can enjoy the Fiber Maker Faire.  This is a family fun festival to make, create, learn, invent, craft, recycle, build, think, play and be inspired by celebrating the fiber arts and crafts. Each artisan will have a space to exhibit their work, demonstrate their process and interact with customers about their particular fiber craft.

In addition, three fiber related workshops will be offered at the Center this fall.  Jenny Schu, a fiber artist who is the Michigan representative for the Handweavers Guild of America, will be teaching a Beading Workshop on Saturday, September 14 from 1pm-4pm.  During this workshop, students will learn how to create bracelets using peyote stitch.  Gretel Rutledge will lead a Seti Silk Painting workshop on Saturday, September 28 from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.  All materials will be provided for both workshops.  The fee for both workshops is $60 for LACA members and $65 for non-members.  Space is limited.

The third workshop being offered this fall will be facilitated by Jane Reiter, an artist from Lansing who specializes in using recycled materials in her artwork, will be leading a workshop entitle “Recycle-Repurpose” on Sunday, October 13 from1 p.m. – 4 p.m.  Students will learn about reusing fabrics, plastics and other materials to create functional art.  Materials will be provided.  The fee for this workshop is $20 for LACA members and $25 for non-members.
