Beach hazard issued; thunderstorms possible

A beach hazard is in effect today for beaches from South Haven to Manistee. High wave action and dangerous swimming conditions are expected along with strong structural currents, strong longshore currents and rip currents. Isolated thunderstorms are expected in the afternoon.

Here are the current conditions for the Lake Michigan shoreline and Mason County (including Pentwater) as of 10:30 a.m. today.

 

Lake Michigan water temperatures: (These temperatures are from Tuesday. Wednesday temperatures were not available as of posting).

Ludington Stearns Park: 51 F

Ludington State Park (Big Sable Point): 55 F

Summit Park: 62 F

Pentwater: 66 F

Afternoon weather:

Ludington: Temperatures reaching 75 degrees F. Cloudy with a chance of isolated thunderstorms early this afternoon and this evening; humidity: 73%; wind: south-southwest at 13 mph increasing to 18 mph later.

Scottville and Pentwater: Temperatures reaching 76 degrees F, decreasing to 70 degrees later. Chance of thunderstorms later; humidity: 63%; wind: southwest at 12 mph.
