Frederick James Lewis

Mason County Press has chosen to not post the name of the alleged victim. She testified during a preliminary examination to determine if the crime warranted being heard in circuit court.

Lewis was arrested on Feb. 12 following an investigation by the Michigan State Police. He was charged with two counts of criminal sexual conduct first degree involving a minor under the age of 13.

The woman is a relative of Lewis’ and was living in the same Custer Township house during the alleged incidences, which she said began in 2001. Through tears she told the court about being locked in the defendant’s room and being forced to have sexual intercourse with him. She said the sexual acts continued for three years.

She also stated that she only came forward recently about the alleged crime because she did not want to damage relationships with other members of her family.

Judge Peter Wadel said he believed there was enough evidence to turn the matter over to circuit court. Lewis will be formally arraigned in 51st Circuit Court on Tuesday, July 9 at 1:30 p.m.
