AUBURN HILLS — Doug Wyman (285) from Mason County Central started the day off on the right foot by pinning his opponent from Capac in the second round.  Trevor Skinner (119) also from MCC followed with a 9-3 win over his opponent from Grand Rapids Catholic Central.

Logan Merrick (135) freshman from MCC ran into a buzz saw from Otsego and lost his match in the second period.  Justin Steiger (160) from MCC lost his match 12-0 to a wrestler from Caro.  The best match of the day pitted Josh Quinn (189) from MCC vs. Dan Drummond from Grand Rapids Catholic Central.  Their match went back and forth until the 3rd period.  With the score tied 6 all, Drummond was able to work a takedown late in the period for the advantage.  Quinn worked a quick escape but was not able to make up the final point as time ran out for an 8-7 loss.  Dylan Sorensen (215), Ludington’s lone representative wrestled a 2-2 tie into overtime before losing on a penalty point to his opponent from Lake Odessa.  A sixth wrestler from MCC, Jared Alvesteffer (171) was forced to withdraw from the tournement due to illness.

All of the wrestlers returned to the Palace this morning with Merrick, Steiger, Quinn, and Sorensen trying to stay in the tourney via the consolation rounds beginning at 8:30 AM.  Wyman and Skinner will follow in the 2nd round of the championship bracket at 11:00 AM.  All of the matches may be viewed live at mhsaa.tv  (Division Three).
