Thanks for a great 2012, here’s to 2013!

December 27, 2012

As 2013 approaches, I wanted to take a few moments and reflect on 2012.
MasonCountyPress.com was started in January 2012 with the goal of providing free news and information to the people of Mason County. I also wanted to create a news source which took advantage of social networking, giving people news now rather than 24 hours later.
We started out with occasional feature stories on local residents and also with community bloggers, who wrote about what’s going on in their worlds. Eventually, we started selling advertising and covered more and more news and current events.
Twelve months later, we are averaging 1,000 hits a day and have become the top news site for many people. Two weeks ago we introduced classified ads, which we are currently offering for free.
I see Mason County Press as the people’s news site. Ideally, I would like to see more community journalists who can cover various news events, especially breaking news. In this day and age of cell phone cameras, it’s pretty easy to snap a picture of an event happening.
I would also like to see us increase our sports coverage. At this time it’s difficult for me to cover this by myself. I’d like to see some parents who may have an interest in writing up a brief re-cap after a game and supply some photos.
Community bloggers are also always welcome. We’d like to know what’s going on in your part of Mason County. Many people are also interested in local history.
If any of these areas appeal to you, or if you have another topic you’d like to write about, please let me know. It’s time to move Mason County Press up a few more notches and make us the number one news source in the area. By this time next year, I’d like to write that we are averaging 5,000 hits a day.
I hope you have had a wonderful 2012 and wish you an even better 2013.
