Ludington schools seeks board applicant to replace Nellis

December 7, 2012

LUDINGTON — The Ludington Board of Education received the resignation of Jeffrey Nellis, effective Dec. 31. Nellis is resigning because he was recently elected as Mason County Probate Judge. Serving on the school board could be seen as a conflict of interest, Nellis has told MCP.

The board will be filling the vacancy by appointment and is seeking applications to fill the position for the 2012-2013 school year. The six-year board seat will expire on Dec. 31, 2014. The seat will be filled by election during the November 2014 election.

Anyone interested in serving on the school board may send a letter of application to Superintendent Cal DeKuiper, Ludington Area Schools Administration Office, 809 E. Tinkham Ave., Ludington, MI 49431. Deadline is Dec. 14, 2012.

Applicants are asked to include a brief resume and state their interest for serving on the board. The only eligibility qualification for membership on the board is that the person is a registered school elector in the Ludington Area School District. Formal discussion is expected to take place at the board’s regular meeting on Dec. 17.

DeKuiper is available to meet with interested citizens at any time to further discuss the position. Appointments can be made by calling 231-845-7302, extension 2839.
