MCC wrestlers compete in national competition

SCOTTVILLE — Five Mason County Central wrestlers competed at the Border Wars Fall National Wrestling Tournament held at Kellogg Arena in Battle Creek on Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012.  To be eligible to compete at the tournament, each wrestler must have placed in the top four at a qualifying tournament.

The tournament hosted competitors from Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Wisconsin, Florida, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Iowa and Michigan.

Zachary Quinn, 5th grade, went undefeated for first place in the 9-10 yr old, 110 pound division.  Andrew Quinn, 3rd grade, went undefeated for first place in the 7-8 yr old, 82 pound division.  Matt Quinn, 8th grade, went 2-2 for fifth place in the 13-14 yr old, heavyweight division.  Josh Quinn, sophomore, went 3-2 for fifth place in the 15-18 yr old, 189 pound bracket.  Jacob Shoop, eighth grade, competed in the 13-14 year old, 114 pound division.  Shoop went 3-2, with 3 pins, good for a fifth place, his seventh All-American finish.

Josh Quinn will wrestle with the MCC varsity team, while the other four boys will begin their MYWAY season in a few weeks.
