Mason County, Michigan is seeking applicants for the position of county Drain Commissioner due to an upcoming retirement.  This is an elected position to serve out the balance of the term expiring December 31, 2020.  Duties of the county drain commissioner are set forth in the Michigan Drain Code of 1956, Public Act 40 of 1956 as amended.

The Mason County Drain Commission is responsible for the care and maintenance of in excess of 130 miles of established drains in Mason County. Maintenance on existing county drains is funded by special assessments on benefitted properties.  This office is also the administrator of the Soil Erosion and Sedimentation Control Program, Part 91, as established by the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Act, 1994, PA 451, as Amended. This act is designed to keep the soils and sedimentation of the State of Michigan from being deposited into Michigan’s lakes and streams.

Salary is established by the Board of Commissioners according to the salary schedule presently in place.
