Ludington teen airlifted following crash.

PERE MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP — A 17-year-old Ludington boy was flown via Aeromed to Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids with critical injuries following a single-vehicle crash Wednesday, Oct. 13, around 3:45 a.m. on South Lakeshore Drive north of Chauvez Road, according to Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole.

“Upon the arrival of emergency crews, both front seat occupants were found unconscious and seriously injured,” said Sheriff Cole. “The driver — a 20-year-old man from Hart — was transported to Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital with serious injuries,” said Cole. “An 18-year-old Oceana County female riding in the back seat was treated at Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

“The crash took place after a 2011 BMW, traveling southbound on Lakeshore Drive left the right side of the road and struck several trees trapping the driver and front seat passenger.

“A preliminary report from the Mason County Sheriff’s Office Crash Team indicates speed and alcohol as potential factors in the crash. The crash does remain under investigation.”

Ludington Fire Department Jaws of Life, Pere Marquette Township Fire Department, Life EMS and Michigan State Police, Hart post responded to the scene and assisted the Mason County Sheriff’s Office.
