Scottville police arrest man for concealed weapon; drug charges possible.

SCOTTVILLE — A 45-year-old Pere Marquette Township man was arrested by Scottville Police Department on Monday, Oct. 4.

“The Scottville Police Department responded to a well being call at a residence well know for drug use,” Scottville Police Chief Matt Murphy said. “After making contact with two subjects, one of the subjects left the scene in his vehicle. The vehicle was stopped after committing traffic offenses at the intersection of Main and First streets in the city of Scottville.”

Phillip Lee Dougherty of 1104 N. Sherman Road, was arrested and charged with carrying a concealed weapon, a felony charge punishable by up to five years imprisonment and/or a fine up to $2,500.

“This is the fourth arrest Scottville Police Department has made in just over two weeks, all of which involve subjects who have been hanging out in areas known for drug use,” Murphy said. “Scottville Police Department is working hard to keep the people involved in these activities off our streets and away from our schools and the children of our community. This is not a problem only facing Scottville but communities all across the state and nation.”

Murphy said SPD is investigating possible drug-related charges as well. The department was assisted on scene by a Michigan State Police drug recognition expert who performs advanced roadside testing of subjects suspected of driving while under the influence of drugs. Murphy said SPD waiting for the results of the testing before pursuing further charges.

Dougherty was arraigned in 79th District Court and bail was set at $500 cash only. A probable cause hearing in district court is scheduled for 11:15 a.m. on Oct. 20, 2021.
