Demo derby car catches fire inside Custer garage.

CUSTER — A demolition derby car caught fire, which caused an explosion inside a garage at 125 N. Custer Road late Friday night. Custer Fire Department and Scottville Fire Department were called to the scene for a report of a garage fire and a person still in the garage. Upon the arrival of the first fire truck, bystanders had already removed the car from the garage, which likely saved the garage and attached house from major fire damage. The man working on the car suffered some burns but refused medical treatment, according to fire personnel on scene.

Other emergency units on scene included Mason County Sheriff’s Office and Michigan State Police – Hart Post.

Fire units were on scene for about 45 minutes.
