CUSTER — On Feb. 16, a 72-year-old Scottville woman was walking along East State Street (US 10) near High Street in Scottville, not far from her home. The road narrows through that area due to the gulley. A truck passed by her, striking her; the driver was unaware at the time that someone had been struck. The first passersby to stop and render aid were four Mason County Eastern High School students, Corinna Hernandez, Lydia Howe, Hillary Howe, and Skylar Harry.

The girls were honored today during the high school’s homecoming assembly. Superintendent Paul Shoup told the students in attendance that he often hears from adults about the things that kids these days don’t do. He said he typically must rebut by telling them about the things that kids do do. He said this was an example of good citizenship that has been instilled in the students.

Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole and Undersheriff Derrek Wilson presented the girls with lifesaving certificates from the sheriff’s office.
