Ludington man dies following US 31 crash.

GRANT TOWNSHIP, Oceana County — An 86-year-old Ludington man died Monday, Nov. 30, following a single-vehicle crash on US 31 near Rothbury Sunday morning, said Oceana County Sheriff Craig Mast.

“It is my unfortunate duty to advise you that Mr. Beverly Collins passed away today at 4:33 p.m. from the injuries he’d sustained in this crash,” said Sheriff Mast Monday evening. “Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers.”

Beverly Collins and Virginia Mae Collins, 83, were passengers in a 2007 Ford Econoline van driven by Vanya Ladene Veihl, 65, of Ludington, according to an Oceana County Sheriff’s Office accident report. Beverly Collins was riding in the front passenger seat, and Virginia Collins was riding in the back.

The van was southbound on the highway north of the Park Road overpass shortly after 7 a.m. when “it lost control on a portion of icy roadway and left the roadway right,” states the report. “The vehicle overturned once off the roadway and rolled over approximately four times before coming to rest on its wheels.”

The couple were transported to Mercy Hospital in Muskegon for serious injuries. “Beverly was injured badly to his face and head,” said Sheriff Mast.

The driver received minor injuries and was treated at the scene by Life EMS, according to the report.

They were all wearing seatbelts.
